About jay

Jay is a UK based artist, who had her first radio play in 2018 when Bob Fischer played her on BBC Radio Tees. She went on to have tracks played on national radio on BBC 6 Music. Called 'genre-defying' by Tom Robinson, Jay is a Sage Summer Studios alumni and an awardee of the Do It Differently Fund through Help Musicians (2021).

Her single ‘American Tennessee’ was chosen in the roundup of BBC Introducing Tees Best of 2021. It won Track of the Week on BBC Tees Introducing and was in the last 50 semi-finalists for the Road to Nashville International Song Contest, chosen out of 20,305 entries.

In 2022 she was accepted onto the Co-Pilot mentoring scheme, working with Martha D Lewis. She has performed at ARC Stockton (Ribbons), Tall Ships Races, Hartlepool, Hark! And Tracks Tuesdays in the Darlington, HMV Darlington and has supported acts such as MG Boulter, Ren Lawton, Amelia Coburn, Jodie Nicholson and Serious Sam.

With her unique lyrical style Jay explores themes of love and belonging in her music, drawing on her life growing up between cultures and breaking away from the restrictions of the conservative community she grew up in.

She released her self-titled album funded by Help Musicians in 2023 and is currently working on new material, due to release 2025.
